| §. 4. Mit Discretion accompagniren heißt auch zuweilen die Fehler anderer übertragen, und denenselben nachgeben. Oft befiehlt dieses die Höflichkeit, oft auch die Nothwendigkeit, wenn z. E. ein vielstimmiges Stück von vielen Ausführern, welche nicht gleiche Fähigkeiten besitzen, ordentlich ausgeführet werden soll. Der beste Anführer muß alsdenn nachgeben, und folglich auch der Accompagnist.

§4. To accompany with discretion also means to give way occasionally to the errors of others and to adapt to them. Often politeness, and often necessity, require this, when for example a many-voiced piece should be executed properly by many performers of unequal abilities. In this case the best performer must yield to the others, and thus the accompanist must do so as well.
