Chapter 31. On fermatas

§. 3. Wenn die Hauptstimme schleppend in eine Fermate gehet, so muß sich der Accompagnist mit fortschleppen lassen. Dieses ist in dem unten folgenden Exempel durch x x vorgebildet.	§3. If the principal voice approaches a fermata sluggishly, then the accompanist must follow accordingly. This is indicated in the example below via x x.

Wenn die Hauptstimme daselbst bey dem a anhält, und darauf Verzierungen anbringet, so gehet der Accompagnist bis zum fis fort, und bleibet damit, samt der dazu gehörigen Harmonie so lange liegen, bis er merket, daß der Vorschlag über der folgenden Grundnote eintritt, da er alsdenn das g allein mit der linken Hand anschlägt, und es bey dem Ende der Verzierung mit dem gebrochenen Dreyklange noch einmal wiederholet.	If the principal voice holds at the a′, subsequently introducing embellishments, then the accompanist proceeds to the bass note F♯ and holds there with its proper harmony until he notices that the appoggiatura enters over the following bass note, upon which he plays the G in the left hand, repeating this bass note again at the end of the embellishment with the arpeggiated triad.
