§. 7. Im andern Falle wird dieser Schleifer, als eine traurige Manier, bey matten Stellen, besonders im Adagio, mit Nutzen gebraucht. Er wird alsdenn matt und piano gespielt, und mit vielem Affecte und mit einer Freyheit, welche sich an die Geltung der Noten nicht zu sclavisch bindet, vorgetragen.	§7. In the second case the slide is used as a mournful ornament for languid passages, especially in adagios. For that purpose it is played languorously and piano, with much affect and liberty, not following the note values too strictly.
Sein gewöhnlichster Sitz ist auf der wiederholten Note Fig. XCI. [Ex. I:174] (a). Ausserdem kommt er auch im hinaufgehen und springen vor (b). Man siehet hieraus, daß dieser Schleifer alsdenn ein langsam ausgefüllter Anschlag mit dem Tertien-Sprunge ist. Man kann durch ihn eine Haltung ebenfalls mit Affecte ausfüllen (c).	It is most commonly used on the repetition of a note, Ex. I:174 (a). Furthermore, it may be found on ascending notes and upward leaps (b). We conclude that the slide is a slow compound appoggiatura with the filled interval of a third. It may also fill held notes with affect (c).
