§. 5. Bey Fig. LXXXIX. [Ex. I:172] (a) sehen wir die Ausführung dieses Schleifers von dreyen Nötgen.	§5. In Ex. I:172 (a) we see the execution of a slide with three small notes.
Die Geschwindigkeit dieser Manier wird von dem Inhalte eines Stückes und dessen Zeit-Maaße bestimmt.	The speed depends on the [affective] content of the piece and its tempo.
Da man von diesem Schleifer noch kein gewöhnliches Zeichen hat, und seine Ausführung einem Doppelschlage in der Gegen-Bewegung vollkommen gleich ist; so habe ich ihn viel bequemer durch das bey (b) befindliche Zeichen angedeutet, als wenn ich statt dessen drey kleine Nötgen hätte setzen wollen, wie man zuweilen antrifft (c).	Since it has no common symbol yet, and its execution is exactly that of an inverted turn, I have indicated it by the symbol at (b), which is much more convenient than the three notes sometimes notated as seen at (c).
Das Auge kann unsere Bezeichnungs-Art leichter übersehen und die Noten bleiben in der Nähe beysammen.	The eye can easily comprehend the new symbol, and the notes are kept more closely together.
