§27. Accompaniment, like written-out pieces, requires a certain weight in the depression of the key, rather than merely passing lightly over the surface of the key. This cannot occur efficiently without lifting the hands up somewhat.

| Wenn dieses nicht zu Holzhackermäßig geschiehet, so ist die Erhebung der Hände nicht allein kein Fehler, sondern vielmehr gut und nöthig, um den Mitmusicirenden das Tempo leichter merkend zu machen, und den Tasten das gehörige Gewichte zu geben, damit die Töne nach den Regeln des guten Vortrages deutlich herausgebracht werden können.

If this occurs in a manner that is not too uneven, then the lifting of the hands is not only allowed, but rather good and necessary so that the other musicians may perceive the tempo more easily, and so that the keys may receive the proper weight, such that the notes may be brought out clearly according to the principles of good performance.
