The true harmony belonging to the bass note is extended even longer via this ornament than we saw with the appoggiaturas, because, in performance, the primary note of the principal voice first enters after the last little note of the ending compound appoggiatura [mk].

The loudness and softness of performance is the same in this ornament as in the appoggiaturas, such that the delayed primary note is soft, while its suspension is loud.

| Alle diese Umstände sollten billig, seit der Einführung dieser Zierde des Gesanges in der Bezifferung eine genaue Andeutung deswegen veranlasset haben; aber wir müssen leider auch hier dasselbe beklagen, was wir schon bey den Vorschlägen gethan haben. Noch bis hieher haben die Bezifferer unserer Manier ihrer Achtsamkeit nicht werth geachtet.

Since the introduction of this vocal embellishment into the figuring, the effect of all this should have been clarity of indication; yet unfortunately we must lament the same situations here as we already saw with the appoggiaturas. Those who write figures have not yet deemed it necessary to extend their attention to this ornament.
