Bey unserer Art von Begleitung werden die Grundnoten niemals mit der linken Hand verdoppelt, es sey denn, daß der Vortrag des Gedanken so stark und das Clavier so außerordentlich schwach wäre, daß man eine Proportion auf diese Weise suchen müßte. Es ist jedoch allezeit besser, und der Natur des tasto solo gemäßer, wenn man diese Nothhülfe nicht brauchet. Hierinnen bestehet eben der wesentliche Unterschied des tasto vom unisono, daß bey diesem die Verdoppelung statt findet, bey jenem aber nicht.

§8. In a tasto solo accompaniment, the bass notes are never doubled [at the octave below] in the left hand unless the performance of the passage were so strong, and the keyboard were so extraordinarily weak, that one had to overcompensate in this way. It is always better, however, and more in accordance with the nature of tasto solo, if one does not make use of this exception. This is the central difference between tasto solo and unison: the latter contains [octave] doublings, while the former does not.
