Alsdenn gehe man das Capitel von den Manieren fleißig durch und übe solche, damit sie in gehöriger Fertigkeit geschickt heraus gebracht werden können; und da dieses eine Aufgabe ist, woran man beynahe Zeit Lebens lernen kann, indem diese Manieren zum Theil mehr Fertigkeit und Geschwindigkeit erfordern als alle Passagien, so halte man den Scholaren damit nicht länger auf, als bis man wegen dieses Punkts mit seiner natürlichen Fähigkeit und Jahren zur Noth zufrieden seyn kann.

§18. Next, one should go through the chapter on ornaments diligently and practice them so that they can be produced with adequate skill; and as this is a task that can require nearly a lifetime of study—with some ornaments requiring more skill and speed than any [virtuosic] passage—the student should not be made to linger over it any longer than what you can necessarily be content with, considering his natural ability and age.
