Nachdem nunmehro die gehörige Wissenschaft der Tasten, Noten, Pausen, Eintheilung des Tacts u. s. w. da ist, so lasse man seine Scholaren eine ganze Zeit durch nichts anders als die Exempel über die Applicatur im Anfange langsam und nachhero immer hurtiger üben, damit mit der Zeit die Setzung der Finger, so schwer und verschieden sie auch bey dem Clavier ist, durch diese Uebung so geläufig werde, daß man nicht mehr darüber denken darf.

§16. Now, after your students have acquired the proper knowledge of keys, notes, rests, division of meter, etc., you should let them practice nothing but the fingering examples [given in the first chapter] for a considerable time, slowly at first, then faster and faster, so that, with time, the positioning of the fingers, as difficult and multifarious as it is on the clavier, becomes so familiar that they do not have to think about it anymore.
