| Die größten Meister unsers Instruments in Deutschland haben dasselbe, wiewohl nicht mit solchem Ueberfluß, gethan, und wer weiß, ob sie nicht durch diese vernünftige Wahl und Anzahl der Manieren Gelegenheit gegeben haben, daß die Franzosen anjetzo nicht mehr, wie vordem, fast jede Note mit einem solchen Zierrath beschweren, und dadurch die nöthige Deutlichkeit und edle Einfalt des Gesanges verstecken. | The greatest masters on our instrument in Germany did the same, although less excessively, and who knows if their reasonable choice and quantity of ornaments prompted the French not to burden almost every note (as they formerly did) with such decorations, and thus hide the required clarity and noble simplicity of the melody. |
