| §. 29. Den rechten Gebrauch dieser zwey Hülfs-Mittel werden wir aus der Ordnung der Ton-Leitern aufs deutlichste ersehen. Dieses ist der Haupt-Nutzen dieser Vorschrift. Bey gehenden Passagien durch die Ton-Leitern, welche sich nicht eben so anfangen und endigen, wie sie hier abgebildet sind, verstehet es sich von selbsten, daß man wegen der Folge die Finger so eintheilt, daß man just damit auskömmt, ohne allezeit verbunden zu seyn, denselben Finger eben auf die Taste zu setzen und keinen andern.

§29. We will most clearly understand the correct usage of these two means [crossing under and over another finger] through the ordering of the scales. This is the chief advantage of this prescription [of learning the fingerings for scales]. With stepwise passages through the scales that do not begin and end as illustrated here, one has, of course, to arrange the fingers as needed by their continuation so that they will just suffice, and therefore one is not obliged to always use the same finger on the same key and no other.
