| §. 3. Die übermäßige Quinte ist eine Dissonanz, welche nicht leicht ohne Vorbereitung vorkommt, und bey der Auflösung in die Höhe tritt. Man findet sie, wenn der Componist zuweilen, wegen der Zierlichkeit des Gesanges, statt der reinen Quinte, dieses übermäßige Intervall nimmt (a); außerdem kommt sie mehrentheils bey einer aufgehaltenen Sexte vor (b); dann und wann ist sie wegen der Modulation ohne Andeutung nothwendig (c): | §3. The augmented fifth is a dissonance that is usually prepared, and ascends by step at the resolution. One encounters it occasionally if the composer, for more refined voice-leading [Zierlichkeit des Gesangs], uses this augmented interval instead of the perfect fifth (a); otherwise it usually appears in the suspension of the sixth (b); sometimes the context [Modulation] requires it, even without indication (c): |
