| (2) Weder die natürlich noch zufällig große Sexte wird verdoppelt, wenn sie die kleine Terz bey sich hat. | (2) Neither the diatonic nor the chromatic major sixth may be doubled if it has a minor third with it. |
| J. S. Bach gives this same rule in the Regeln vom Generalbaß im Notenbüchlein von Anna Magdalena Bach: | |
| NB! wo 6 maj: und 3. minor zugleich über der Note vorkommen darff man ja nicht die 6. wegen übellautes, dupliren; sondern muß an statt deren die 8. u. 3 dargegriffen werden. | NB! where a major sixth and minor third both occur over the note, then one may not double the sixth due to it sounding poorly; rather one must take the octave or third in its place. |
