Seine Signatur ist 4 3, oder 5/4 empty/3, wenn die Quarte gleich über derselben Grundnote in die Terz aufgelöset wird: wenn aber diese Auflösung in der Folge erst geschiehet, so ist 4 oder 5/4 genug. Im erstern Falle findet man oft, statt der 3, ein Versetzungszeichen, welches die Größe dieser Terz bestimmet. Dieses Versetzungszeichen muß nicht zu nahe an der 4 stehen, damit man deutlich sehe, daß es nicht der 4 zugehöre, sondern die Terz bedeute.

§2. Its signature figuration [mk] is 4 3, or 5/4 empty/3, if the fourth resolves immediately to the third over the same bass note; but if the resolution occurs over a different bass note, then 4 or 5/4 suffice. In the former case one often encounters an accidental instead of the 3, which determines the size of the third. This accidental must not be placed too close to the 4, so that one can see clearly that it belongs, not to the fourth, but to the third.
