This is most likely a reference to Jean-Marie Leclair (1697–1764), one of the most famous violinists of his time. Leclair published several sets of sonatas, trios, and concertos with basso continuo in which he uses raised-7 for the chromatic diminished seventh, raised-6 for the diatonic major sixth, and raised-5 for both the diatonic diminished fifth and the chromatic diminished fifth. Note in the previous paragraph that Bach uses the term “natürlich groß” for all diatonic intervals (not just diatonic major) and “zufällig groß” for chromatic intervals. |
